Haslemere’s playground plans are swinging into action as residents are asked to help shape the next generation of play areas across the town.

More than half a million pounds is set to be invested into three Haslemere playgrounds, with residents now being invited to have their say on how the money should be spent.

The consultation comes after the huge success of the newly transformed Town Meadow playground, which reopened earlier this year following a £130,000 overhaul that turned the ageing play area into an inclusive space for children aged two to 14.

Haslemere Town Council has now launched a consultation on proposals to upgrade Lion Green, High Lane Recreation Ground and Haslemere War Memorial Recreation Ground, with feedback set to help guide the next stage of the improvement programme.

Running from July 29 to August 26, the consultation gives residents the chance to share their views on what they would like to see included in the redesigned play spaces.

The plans follow a decision by Haslemere Town Council’s Amenities, Infrastructure & CIL Committee to ringfence £530,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding for the three sites.

Lion Green has been allocated £250,000, while £140,000 has been set aside for both High Lane Recreation Ground and Haslemere War Memorial Recreation Ground.

A working party has also been established to oversee the projects through consultation, design, development and procurement.

The council said the latest consultation would help ensure future playgrounds reflect the needs and wishes of local families, with residents encouraged to share their ideas before the closing date.

Residents can view the consultation and submit feedback through the Amenities & CIL section of the Haslemere Town Council website.

High Lane Recreation Ground and Haslemere War Memorial Recreation Ground remain owned by Waverley Borough Council, but are currently in the process of being transferred to Haslemere Town Council.
