Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was delighted with his side’s performance after they beat Westfield 2-0 in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Goals from Adam Liddle and Harry Cooksley were enough to give Town the three points at The Memorial Ground.

“It was a professional performance,” said Johnson. “I thought we were good from front to back.

“We limited them (Westfield) to two chances. Pat Nash made a great save after a slip by Jordan Stepney and then they had one flashed across goal in the second half. Put that aside I thought it was another dominant performance.”

Westfield were unbeaten in the league before the match, but Farnham produced a polished performance to deservedly pick up the three points.

“We knew what to expect from them (Westfield),” said Johnson.

“We were well drilled. We talk about our own standards – we've got to keep getting better and better.

“We've got to find a way where we compete for 90 minutes and at the moment we're doing that.

“Everyone is buying into. The substitutes are coming on with a really good attitude, so it’s pleasing for everyone.”

Johnson was particularly pleased with Farnham’s first goal, which was expertly finished by Liddle after a free-flowing move up the pitch.

“I don't think you're going to see a better team goal than that,” said Johnson.

“We won it back in our own corner and popped two or three passes. Then Owen Dean drives forward and rolls Adam in and he bent it in the corner.

“Adam was superb. He was a real pest, got his goal and maybe should have had another.”

Johnson felt Farnham could have been more clinical in front of goal, but praised the performance of Westfield keeper Hugo Sobte – who made a string of impressive saves to keep the visitors in the game.

“I think we made it a game – I think we let them off,” said Johnson.

“We missed a few chances, but that aside I think Hugo has most probably picked up man-of-the-match – he made some great saves. It was a little bit frustrating but they were great saves.

“I thought we made it more of a game than it should have been but we were professional in the second half. We dominated it – it was just a matter of time for the second one to come.”

Cooksley doubled Farnham’s advantage with a deflected free kick, and Johnson felt his side deserved that slice of good fortune.

“I think we earned that bit of luck from the free kick with the deflection because Hugo's pulled off a great double save on the line just moments before that,” said Johnson.

“You create your own luck and we fully deserved the second one.”

One negative for Farnham was an injury to influential playmaker Darryl Sanders in the warm-up before the game.

“A couple of minutes before we went in Darryl struck a ball and something went in his thigh, so we had to shuffle it around last minute,” said Johnson.

“It’s not ideal because of the knock-on effect it can have with the other boys, especially being Darryl and what he brings to the table, but I thought the boys dealt with it really well.

“Everyone knows what we're doing and knows the system and people just go straight in.”

New signing Great Evans, who joined Farnham from Southern League Premier South outfit Bracknell Town, made his first start, and Johnson was pleased with the striker’s performance.

“We see moments with him,” said Johnson. “He's something that we haven't got – that physical strength up there – and we saw great moments from him.

“He's only going to get better and he's going to be a real asset for us.”

A healthy crowd of 364 watched the game, and Johnson thanked the fans for their backing.

“We appreciate it,” said Johnson. “It makes for a good atmosphere, especially under the lights.”

Johnson says he is taking one game at a time despite his side’s excellent start.

“We've got a run of league games now, which we've been craving for, and we're putting the points on the board,” said Johnson.
