Three Alton Runners showcased impressive endurance by completing the Solent half marathon and the Run to the Sea in the same weekend – which is more than 44 miles each.
Rachel Walsh, Christian Coles and Philip Scrase demonstrated remarkable stamina and determination.
On Saturday, October 5, they tackled the 50km Run to the Sea point-to-point course, which started at Moors Valley Country Park and ended at Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth.
Walsh led the charge, finishing as the first female and in ninth place overall.
On Sunday, October 6, the Alton trio took part in the Solent half marathon, which was the second event in the 2024-25 Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) season.
Despite the drizzly weather, the undulating course through the New Forest provided a scenic backdrop for their efforts.
Walsh said: “It was a super weekend with two beautiful races.”
Several other Alton Runners took on the Solent half marathon. Steve Drysdale finished 22nd overall, while Samara Kelleher-Jacobs was the first Alton woman to cross the finish line – securing 188th place. Christian Coles was second back for Alton with a course personal best.
Gary Caswell represented Alton Runners in the Basingstoke half marathon. Hugh Bethell took on the Basingstoke 10km run and finished second in the over-70 category. Louise Long completed the Crete half marathon.
Parkrun has celebrated its 20th anniversary and 32 Alton Runners joined in the celebrations by participating in various events.
Club members were spread across several locations, including Trelissick, Southsea, Bracknell, Winchester, Alice Holt, Brockenhurst, Tamar Lakes, Hogmoor Inclosure and Seven Fields.
