Alton Runners have had plenty to celebrate following a highly-successful 2023-24 season.

The club fielded an impressive 48 male and 41 female runners in this season’s Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL).

The ladies’ A team finished first in Division Two and the men’s A team finished second in Division One.

Alton Runners boasted three top-ten finishers in the men’s individual standings, with James Perrett clinching the league’s bronze medal. Rachel Walsh finished seventh in the women’s standings.

The Alton Runners club championship awards celebrated individual achievements and performances in the HRRL and the Southern Cross Country League.

The awards ceremony was paired with the club’s annual picnic.

Rachel Walsh was named the women’s overall road race champion for the third consecutive year, James Perrett was the men’s overall road race champion, Pippa Perrett was named the women’s senior road race champion after taking part in eight races and Matthew Eade was the men’s senior road race champion.

Women’s V35 road race champion Lydia Andrews defender her title, Christian Coles was the men’s V40 road race champion, Kathryn Powell was the women’s V45 road race champion and Jamie Kilner-Smith was the men’s V50 road race champion.

Women’s V55 road race champion Diana Byrne retained her title, Philip Scrase was the men’s V60 road race champion and Richard Bacon was the men’s V70 road race champion.

Nicola Fitzpatrick was named the female cross country champion and Steve Drysdale was the men’s cross country champion.

Sarah Dugdale was named member of the year for her contributions to the club, her cheerful presence and her passion for capturing moments during runs.

James Kidwell, who participated in all 12 HRRL races, a couple of cross-country races and completed his first ultra race was named runner of the year.

Richard Scrase was named volunteer of the year for his unwavering commitment to volunteering at events and supporting team members.
