ALTON Rugby Club’s band of volunteers have been honoured again.
Five were invited to the inaugural reception for the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards in recognition of their work and dedication to the game. The Alton five were Tom Mills (club president), Charles Clark (past president), Steve Jenkins (coaching co-ordinator), Katie McFarlane (communications officer/ team manager) and James Youell (coach).
The reception, held at Winchester RFC, was attended by volunteers from clubs across Hampshire.
Working in partnership with England Rugby, Mitsubishi Motors has developed this awards scheme to recognise, thank and reward the many volunteers who make up an integral part of the game.
Tom Gaynor, chairman of Alton RFC, was delighted that so many volunteers had been recognised. But he added: “Virtually every one of our adult members plays a vital role in the volunteering effort that is needed to make us the great club we are. Next year, we’ll be hoping that even more of the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes – week in and week out – can be recognised in this way.”
• Alton RFC welcome anyone to their free Tuesday night touch rugby sessions which are open to all ages (12 years+) and genders. The sessions start at 7pm in Anstey Park and will continue until late July.
