Aldershot & Farnham (A&F) Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Guildford’s second team in the South East Women’s Premier Division on Saturday.
A quick break by A&F meant Sophie Edwards found herself in Guildford's D. A visiting defender blocked an open goal shot, and the Shots were awarded a flick. Edwards stepped up to the plate and slotted home the first goal.
The home side saw out the rest of the first half to lead 1-0 at half-time.
Guildford pinned A&F back in the second half and eventually equalised.
The Shots responded well to that setback and Edwards took on the Guildford defence and put the ball on a Guildford foot in the D.
Guildford went back on the attack and a high ball through the middle caught Tammy Cherry on the knee. Play carried on, and Guildford bagged their second goal.
A&F pushed hard for an equaliser, but the visitors held on to claim the three points.
Petersfield’s women’s first team slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Basingstoke’s third team.
Basingstoke broke the deadlock late in the first half.
The home side then scored two goals early in the second half to go 3-0 up.
Petersfield pulled a goal back when Stratton-Brown slotted her penalty flick into the bottom left-hand corner.
Petersfield’s women’s second team crashed to a 4-0 defeat at home to Haslemere’s fourth team.
The visitors were 3-0 up at half-time and added a fourth goal in the second half.
