Badshot Lea claimed the local bragging rights with a 2-1 win at Alton in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.

The Baggies took the lead on 15 minutes when Alfie Edmonds tore down the right before driving the ball low across goal for Mark Holley to finish at the back post.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 36th minute when Fareed Hakeem-Habeeb switched play to Stan Jones on the right flank, who raced to the edge of the area and stroked the ball across Alton keeper Aiden Upward into the far corner.

The Brewers pulled a goal back on 49 minutes when Mackenzie Patterson’s driven strike from the edge of the box beat Baggies keeper Rileigh Hebditch.

Alton pushed for an equaliser and nearly got back on level terms when Ed Dryden’s effort hit the bar, but the Baggies held on to seal their spot in the second qualifying round.
