Women’s and girl’s cricket is now firmly established at Fernhurst after an amazingly-successful season which has seen them claim the double.
A few weeks after their successful defence of the I’Anson crown, the Fernhurst Flames added the Sussex title to the cabinet.
For the Sussex fixtures, Fernhurst partner with Petworth Park.
They qualified for Finals Day with a 100 per cent record in the Sussex women’s softball league.
The finals took place on Sunday at the Southern Vipers training facility in Brighton.
Flames coach Jon Meier said: “The semi-final was against Rottingdean and, following a close run chase, set up a final against Chiddingfold.
“An excellent batting display saw the Flames post 281.
“Chiddingfold lost a series of wickets early on so victory was comfortably achieved by 25 runs to make this a double winning season.
“With the section proving their quality again this year, we now look forward to playing in the new I’Anson hardball league in 2023 to add this to our growing list of trophies.”
Fernhurst are well on the way to becoming a ‘hub club’ for women’s and girls’ cricket in its corner of Sussex. With the new pavilion due to open soon, they may have to redesign the trophy cabinet!
