FARNHAM Bowling Club held a memorable celebration weekend for the club’s 140th anniversary – a truly remarkable landmark – and it culminated with a prestigious fixture against the Surrey County BA President’s team on Sunday.
The game at the Bear Lane green was played in the traditional spirit of sportsmanship, with friendly inter-action between the teams. That Farnham lost overall did not matter as the game itself was the winner.
After months of preparation, over 50 bowlers took part in the sunshine, ably supported by friends and former members.
The match was followed by a sumptuous barbecue prepared by club member Mark Gorman, a chef, finishing off with a tempting selection of sweets produced by another member, Viv Greenfield.
The raffle was well supported, with contributions from local businesses Waitrose, The Beefeater and Graham Jewellers.
A successful afternoon was enjoyed by all who took part. Farnham BC’s membership has grown this year, but there is always room for more – of any age and ability, including complete novices. Visit the club’s website for information: www.farnhambowlingclub.co.uk
