A Muslim youth association has collected 1,000kg of food and other necessities for those in need.

The local chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) UK launched a two-week campaign in early January and has amassed a huge stockpile of aid at its Farnham warehouse.

People from local communities responded with numerous donations ranging from canned goods, clothing, diapers and more. 

AMYA’s regional outreach and welfare co-ordinator for Hampshire and Surrey, Haris Khan, described the donations as a “good turn out” and that people were really “keen” to get involved.

Mr Khan said: “In the next two weeks we’re reaching out to charities and organisations and letting them know we have food to distribute. 

“With the cost of living crisis and especially after the pandemic, many people are struggling and some are being made redundant so it’s very important.

“The organisation in Arabic, the translation of it means to serve and our role within the community is to help out within the organisation and make a difference.”

AMYA is a youth branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community; a religious and charitable Muslim organisation whose global headquarters are in Tilford.

With more than 8,000 members across the UK, AMYA is frequently involved in community events such as litter picks and raising money for charities.
