PART of Petersfield’s central car park will become a construction site this week as work is due to begin on a new accessible toilet block.
The Changing Places toilet is designed for people with disabilities who require additional facilities not offered in standard WCs.
The enlarged facility next to the existing block will include a hoist and changing bench with room for one or two carers.
Work on the £160,000 project was due to begin today (Monday, February 12) and is expected to take 13 weeks. Around 18 spaces will be blocked off during construction work while six will be lost permanently to the new building.
A second Changing Places toilet is also being installed at Queen Elizabeth Country Park with the project being led by the district council.
“These Changing Places toilets make it so much easier to use public conveniences and mean that everyone can enjoy a trip to Petersfield and QECP in comfort,” said Cllr Robert Mocatta, EHDC portfolio holder for regeneration and prosperity, adding that disruption will be kept to a minimum.
