A dog walker was shocked to discover two vehicles ablaze early on the morning of Monday, September 9.

Police received reports of a car and a van on fire off Lower Lodge Road, near Fernhurst, around 7.10am.

Firefighters from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were dispatched at 6.42am, they arrived to find the vehicles engulfed in flames in the woods. With a fire engine from Midhurst attending the scene, they used a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire, but the vehicles were completely destroyed.

An investigation into the incident, believed to have been started deliberately, is underway. Sussex Police have seized the vehicles, and enquiries are ongoing.

The dog walker mentioned that the location where the vehicles were found regularly suffers from gates being smashed down by fly-tippers.
