A developer wants to slightly increase the number of homes it can provide at a derelict site in Petersfield.

A revised application for the former Kings Arms and Lab99 gym site between Wetherspoons and the Festival Hall car park has been submitted by 6A Vision.

Plans to create four townhouses, four apartments and two commercial units on the site were previously approved by the South Downs National Park Authority.

But 6A Vision have tweaked their ‘Courtyard’ application and want to remove the built-in garages originally proposed to create three maisonettes and six flats.

The applicants – the firm behind the station gateway development and numerous other hi-spec housing schemes around the town – believe the changes will create a “more appropriate housing mix”.

They have claimed the garages are expendable because of the surrounding car park, with minimal changes being made to the exterior of the approved block.

The application is due to be discussed by the town council’s planning committee at 6.30pm next Tuesday, October 15.

The current site can be fairly described as a derelict eyesore being surrounded by security fencing and boarded up at ground floor level.
