A local MP exchanged the murky world of politics for a murky pond last week for a community clean-up event.

Farnham and Bordon MP Greg Stafford showed he was prepared to get his hands dirty by grabbing a pair of garden shears and trimming some overgrown weeds and brambles at Badshot Lea village pond.

The Badshot Lea Community Association’s event highlighted the strength of local spirit, as residents joined forces to tidy up the pond and the surrounding area.

The volunteer day got off to a bad start after Waverley ranger Nick Macfarlane pulled out at the last minute with Covid.

But the residents rallied round and by 10am were helping to landscape and clear overgrown brambles and pick up litter. Bird boxes were also cleaned and the duck houses got a makeover.

Afterwards, volunteers were rewarded with hot beverages and doughnuts as a thank you for their efforts.
