IT’S a mystery how gardeners from the Southern Parishes got to the Purbook Horticultural Society’s biggest event of the year given the roadworks outside and the perplexing diversions.
But the Summer Show inside Deverell Hall turned out to be a magical experience for judges, visitors and entrants as it stimulated all the senses.
The quality and quantity of exhibits in the fruit, flowers, vegetables and handicrafts was exceptional while there was also an abundance of entries in the floral art and home baking sections.
Julie Page was one of the showstoppers as the PHS member made, decorated and generously donated a cake to raffle.
The children’s classes also showcased plenty of imagination and flair proving it’s never too early to get involved. The quality of their entries also bodes well for the future health of the Society.
The PHS counts many gardeners from the Horndean, Clanfield, Lovedean and Cowplain areas among its numbers. They’re based next to the London Road allotments and their Trading Store home is open every Saturday from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Their 2024 Spring Show has already been pencilled in for March 24 at Deverell Hall, visit www.purbrookhorticulturalsociety.org.uk for more details.
