Regarding the continuing issue at Kings Pond in Alton, the tree felling saw off the willow tit colony, and they have not returned.
I used to see them all year round in one particular area.
If we do not protect our trees – and even more importantly in the case of willow tits, our scrub – then we will lose more of these birds and subsequently biodiversity.
Even more tree felling has taken place lately and the pond is becoming a cold, windswept, desolate and bleak place – we do not go there much any more.
I assume the birds were willow tits – even if they were the even rarer marsh tit – it seems no-one would care about their loss.
