A local teenager has launched his annual appeal to bring Christmas cheer to those less fortunate.

Joe Tully, 15, is running his 11th Petersfield Christmas Give, after starting out with his help from his brother when he was four years-old.

He is collecting chocolates, selection boxes, Christmas treats and toys and books for children, families and individuals.

Joe said: “Before we even started, people were already asking if it's going to be happening this year because they are so keen to get involved.

“It feels really nice to know that so many people want to help in the community. It is just great and I get to be a part of that.”

Joe is collecting on behalf of the Petersfield Food Bank, The King’s Arms and HomeStart Butser. Donations can be dropped off at Jakes Toys, The Dandy Cat, Free Shop Petersfield, Clavio and The Little Leaf Play Café.

This year, the inspirational teen has set himself a target of collecting 200 selection boxes for The Kings Arms, a local charity that meets the needs of young people.

Joe’s mother, Julie, who helps out with the appeal, said: “Obviously he doesn't have to get all 200 boxes, but once he sets a challenge the gauntlet is down.

“I'm extremely proud of him for wanting to carry on and help the community in Petersfield. The community is amazing and incredibly supportive and if it weren't for them, we couldn't continue.”

A “Giving Tree” has also been set up at Jakes Toys, The Little Leaf Play Café and Clavio where you can buy a gift for a child named on a tag. Cash or card donations can also be made at Jakes Toys.

Donations are being accepted until Saturday, December 21.

Joe added that he has no intention of stopping anytime soon!
