Haslemere has lost one of its best-known public servants following the unexpected death of veteran councillor John Robini after a short illness.
Cllr Robini, who served Haslemere at county, borough and town council level, passed away on Friday, May 1. A full obituary celebrating his life and public service will follow in a future edition of the Herald.
A former Surrey Police officer with more than four decades of service, John entered local politics after a long career focused on community safety and public service.
At the time of his death, he was a “triple-hatted” councillor, representing residents on Haslemere Town Council, Waverley Borough Council and Surrey County Council. He also served as Haslemere Town Mayor from 2019 to 2021, later becoming Mayor of Waverley.
Known for his strong community ties and support for local charities and volunteers, Cllr Robini was a familiar and respected figure across Haslemere and beyond.
A celebration of his life is being planned, with further details to be announced.
