Golfers have raised an 18-hole load of money for an East Hampshire charity following a year of fundraising.

Petersfield Golf Club raised a huge £18,296 for Dementia Friendly Petersfield through their 2025/26 season.

The figure was more than £8,000 their initial target with the charity’s lead volunteer, Audrey Morton, being “blown away” by the size of the donation.

She and fellow volunteer Julie Butler gratefully accepted the cheque from last year’s captains, Iain Thompson and Jackie Carter, whose fathers both lived with dementia.

Jackie said: “Initially, I thought we could raise £10,000, and Audrey was amazed at that possibility.

“So, when we announced we had raised over £18,000, she was blown away.”

Fundraising events included a gruelling 72-hole golf challenge – which Iain finished in just 14 hours – and a raffle with prizes including half-price membership fees and a reserved parking space.

Jackie added: “We also raised more than £1,000 at our Veterans’ Golf Day for Kit Bags, a charity supporting veterans living with dementia, which has a branch in Petersfield.

“Iain and I would like to thank all the members of the golf club, our Pro Shop, and everyone else who contributed to raising such an amazing amount. For a small charity, this will make a real difference.”

“This funding enables us to secure the future of the groups we run and to expand activities and outings for people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers,” said Audrey in thanking the club for raising the “incredible” sum, with a new website also in the pipeline.

“In addition, these funds will help us raise awareness and promote events more widely, including our Dementia Festival, which brings together organisations to support people across the Petersfield area.”
