A Petersfield based learning disabilities and autism charity is looking for people to test their bravery.
FitzRoy is inviting 80 people to walk over 15 feet of burning embers in a sponsored firewalk challenge on December 7. It is set to take place in the Town Square as part of this year’s Christmas Festival.
Fundraising manager Ruth Wright said: “Everybody finds their first firewalk thoroughly exhilarating, it is not a painful experience, but overcoming your fears and taking those first steps on to the embers is amazingly brave. Our firewalkers always love it and many want to do it again!”
All proceeds raised from the sponsored firewalk will go towards FitzRoy, which transforms the lives of people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues.
Ruth added: “We rely on the generous support of our fundraisers, without which we couldn’t achieve the real transformation of people’s everyday lives.
“The iPad that gives someone who is non-verbal a voice, the sensory room that opens up the world, or a smart speaker that can empower somebody who is physically disabled to turn their lights on and off when they choose.”
The challenge will kick off at 5.30pm with a training session to prepare the firewalkers, the walk itself will start from around 7.30pm. As the firewalk is a key part of this year’s Christmas Festival, there will be entertainment and food and drink stalls for everyone to enjoy.
