Haslemere book lovers are being invited to leave the mortal world behind and step into Velaris as a local book club celebrates the launch of the latest chapter in one of BookTok’s biggest obsessions.

Haslemere’s newest bookclub, Candle & Page, is hosting a special night for the release of Sarah J Maas’s A Court of Splintered Harmony, the sixth instalment in her bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

The event takes place at Voco Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa, Haslemere, on Thursday, October 29, from 7pm to 11pm, with fancy dress “very much encouraged”.

A £65 ticket includes a £25 hardback copy of the new book, a cocktail or mocktail on arrival and a sharing mezze platter.

But founder Nancy Underwood said the evening is about more than celebrating a new release.

“As a Mum in my mid-thirties, meeting new people can be difficult,” she said. “This is the perfect event to let your hair down and get to know new people in the area. No pressure, just lots of fun! Fancy dress very much encouraged!”

Nancy created Candle and Page to provide a welcoming space where people can meet others, make friends and rediscover themselves through books.

She previously told the Herald that reading had helped her through difficult years caring for her children.

“When I was at my lowest, the way I pulled myself out was by reading,” she said.

That spirit has become central to the club, where there is no pressure to have finished – or even read – the monthly book.

Now the ACOTAR launch promises to take that community into another realm.
