Fifty-nine people aged from three to more than 60 took part in the New Ashgate Gallery’s free corn dolly workshop led by heritage craft specialist Judith Needham.
Families sat on the grass around the gazebo to make their corn dollies, yet half of those taking part attended without children. Volunteers Jane Newick, Martha, Abi and Kyra learned skills from Judith while helping participants.
Farnham’s mayor Cllr Graham White and deputy mayor Cllr Alan Earwaker took part in a friendly battle of the corn dollies, with the judges declaring the result of their competition a draw.
Gallery director Dr Outi Remes said: “For us, events like this show what it means for Farnham to be a real craft town: people coming together to learn, make and keep traditional skills alive.”
