A new craft exhibition in Farnham presents vessels, drawings and printmaking by ceramicist Dame Magdalene Odundo, alongside works from her personal collection and items she selected from the archive of UCA Farnham’s Crafts Study Centre.

Hosted by the Crafts Study Centre at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Farnham, the exhibition – called A Private View – includes works from textiles and ceramics to furniture and calligraphy.

Dame Magdalene, the UCA’s chancellor, said visitors could expect to see a “broader collection” of crafts than they may have seen before from her.

At the heart of the exhibition are eight large ceramic vessels by Magdalene – six were made with this exhibition in mind.

Magdalene has dedicated it to the late centre director Professor Simon Olding, a friend, colleague and mentor to her.

The exhibition also showcases works Magdalene has collaborated on, such as a textile piece she worked on with fashion designer Jonathan Anderson. 

She said: “Making things is part of our human DNA. It doesn’t matter what you make things from and whether you paint or sculpt or deconstruct a brick. It’s part and parcel of living – making things makes life much richer.”

A Private View continues until August 19.
