A UNIQUE art display created by Year 6 students and children of key workers has gone on display at Wey Hill’s Co-operative Funeralcare.
The floral display contains flowers, each created by pupils of Shottermill Junior School, who had been taking part in lessons in the school’s woods.
Having to take their learning outside, the pupils have been working in their bubbles, learning about the ‘Green Man’ through the Forest School initiative.
It was their learning outside that helped to influence their art, creating the pieces with pencils and oil paints.
Shottermill Junior School art teacher Olivia Harmer – who had assisted the children in creating their pieces of art – commented on the initiative: “They [Shottermill] have they most amazing Forest School.
“And the standard of the work is absolutely phenomenal.”
The display includes flowers such as sunflowers, daisies, gerbera and gladiolus – as well as little insects.
Commissioning the art was Ingrid Collins, the funeral home’s arranger, who got in touch with Shottermill Junior School.
Speaking of the display, Ingrid said: “People just come in from the street to comment on how beautiful it is.
“There was one lady who drove down and stopped at the junction outside – but she then turned and came back, she said she just had to have a closer look at the art work.
“Lots of students have come along with parents and showed off their specific drawings.”
Speaking of the Co-operative’s choice to involve the school, Ingrid said: “We are encouraged to always have something nice in the window and get ourselves involved in the community.
“I wanted something very bright and summery – so I just phoned the school and asked if they could help, and I am absolutely delighted with it.”
