One charity is revving up its fundraising.
Care in Haslemere provides lifts for people who struggle with public transport. Thanks to the donations from its clients it recently gave £4,000 to three charities in town.
The Haslemere Food Bank, which has seen a sharp rise in demand and a fall in donations, received £2,000. The Hunter Centre, which supports those living with dementia, was given £1,000, and Haslewey, the community centre in Wey Hill, Haslemere was also given £1,000.
Driver volunteers receive 45p per mile for each journey, and any surplus donations given by the clients for their transport may then be used to support fellow charities in the Haslemere area.
Care in Haslemere has an office in the Methodist Church at Lion Green, Haslemere GU27 1LD, which is open every weekday morning from 10am to midday.
The team have said: "Please do contact us if you have a few hours here and there to support our really worthwhile local cause. More volunteer drivers and duty officers are urgently needed to help fulfil the travel requests of local people."
