Queen's Award winning Dementia-friendly Alton has launched its Alton Meeting Centre in Edgar Hall to offer a comprehensive range of dementia health and wellbeing services.

It aims to help people live better with dementia by offering warm and friendly expert support to people and their families.

At the heart of the Alton Meeting Centre is a social club where people have fun, talk to others and get help to meet their individual needs.

Activities are developed in consultation with members and other health and social care agencies and include music, singing, arts, crafts, puzzles, games, exercise, dance, horticulture and outdoor activities.

Co-founder and co-ordinator Karen Murrell said: “When dementia is diagnosed it seems that people’s lives can become about what they can’t do.

“Dementia-friendly Alton is all about providing what they can do.”

East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds, who attended the music café at Edgar Hall, said: “What Dementia-friendly Alton are doing in East Hampshire is just brilliant.”
