Grants for new physical activity schemes are available from East Hampshire District Council.

Exercise and health professionals, charities, community groups and local organisations can apply for grants of up to £500 to launch initiatives in the district.

The project aims to tackle exercise inequalities by providing affordable physical activity opportunities.

It focuses on inactive or sedentary residents by bringing them together through physical activity to improve their well-being and health.

Physical activity can include any form of movement that improves health and well-being, such as gardening, litter picking, exercise classes and sport.

Community development and engagement portfolio holder Cllr Adeel Shah said: "Funds are available for local groups with projects that offer any activity which benefits local residents.

"One way we can support local people and local communities is by tapping into our many local groups and individuals who can set up new opportunities for our residents to get active.

"Whether inactivity is due to health conditions, cultural barriers, age-related challenges or social isolation, this project can bring people together through physical activity.

"If you have such a scheme then get in touch with us and see if you are eligible for a Get Up and Go! grant."

Past projects include Parkinson’s intervention groups for 16 people at Alton Sports Centre in partnership with Hobbs Rehab, a Steady and Strong class in Clanfield, an adult carers’ dance class in conjunction with Dementia Friendly Alton alongside activities for those they care for, tai chi at the Triangle Centre in Liss timed to follow a coffee morning, indoor dementia friendly walking football in partnership with Dementia Friendly Petersfield, including a refreshments and socialising area for friends, family and carers, Nordic walking, and yoga in the park in Alton.
