A petition against the possibility of Chawton Park Farm becoming the site for 1,200 houses has been signed by 5,369 people.

Carol Palmer, who chairs the Say No To Chawton Park Farm group, handed over a framed certificate of the petition to East Hampshire District Council at a full council meeting held in Clanfield on September 28.

She also made a speech highlighting comments made by signatories, which included destruction of landscape, loss of biodiversity and farmland, the site being the wrong location for development, worsening traffic and inability of infrastructure to cope.
