Improvements costing more than £5.6 million are on the horizon for two schools in Bordon and one in Liphook following approval by Hampshire County Council.
Bordon Infant School and Bordon Junior School, which cater for children aged between four and 11, are set to receive £4.3 million to expand both schools in response to rising demand for school places in the local area.
Subject to planning consent, this would allow both schools to provide an extra class in every year group, increasing the total number of pupil places by 90 in the infant school and 120 in the junior school.
Should planning permission be granted, the infant school would undergo a single-storey extension including three new classrooms and a library.
The junior school would get two single-storey extensions providing four new classrooms, a music and drama classroom and a library, as well as improvements to the staff car park and pedestrian access.
A planning application has been submitted for both projects, with a decision expected in July. Work is expected to start in the autumn and finish in summer 2024.
At Liphook CE Junior School, which accommodates 360 children aged between seven and 11, a £1.3m project – also subject to planning consent – would provide a single-storey building for music and drama lessons, before and after school clubs, extra-curricular and other community activities.
A planning application is to be submitted, with a decision also expected in July.
Work would start in the autumn and be completed in spring 2024.
Cllr Steve Forster, the county council’s cabinet member for education, said: “We are committed to maintaining our schools to a good standard and this multi-million-pound investment will support us in doing just that; delivering high-quality learning environments that are well-equipped to meet children’s needs.
“Investing in all our schools – both mainstream and specialist settings – is vital to ensure we keep pace with ongoing demand for school places and that we continue to support the future prosperity and success of our children and young people.”
