Heritage Week gave Alton Quakers a chance to open the Quaker Meeting House in Church Street on September 10 and 17.
It has been there for 350 years and both the curious and passers-by took the opportunity to see what is inside the Grade II* listed building.
Many wanted to know more about the Quakers’ history and their place in the modern world. Some had already visited the Curtis Museum and the Quaker trail or seen Quaker exhibits in the Allen Gallery.
Some had family with links to the building and they enjoyed looking at a display of Alton Quakers’ history. There was plenty of chatting over coffee.
The meeting house is open all year round for meetings on Sundays at 10.15am and Fridays at 10.30am. All are welcome to attend.
